EV Charger Installation in Malabar
An EV charger is the easy part: the actual job in Malabar is getting a cable from your switchboard out to the car. Call (02) 9134 9029 and a licensed sparkie will quote it free, on site.
When It Is Time for EV Charger Installation
People tend to book a charger the week the car arrives, then discover the house has opinions about it. Here is when to get us in earlier than that.
- The car is ordered, and you want to know what the driveway will actually cost before it lands
- An extension lead has been snaking out through a window, which was never really a plan
- The board is full, and there is nowhere for a dedicated charger circuit to go
- A granny flat or a second car has doubled what your supply is being asked to do
- You want the charger on the far side of the house from the board, and nobody has told you what that means
- Your existing charger trips out, or charges slower than it ever did

EV Charger Installation: What We Actually Do
A charger install is four decisions: where the unit goes, how the cable gets there, whether the board can feed it, and whether your supply is up to it. We work through them in that order, and in that order the price stops being a surprise.
A dedicated circuit, never a shared one
A charger draws hard for hours at a stretch. It gets its own circuit and its own protection, because sharing with the kitchen is how people end up resetting the board at midnight.
The cable route
This is where the money goes, and where a quote either makes sense or does not. We walk it with you before anyone puts a price on it.
Load assessment before anything else
We check what your board and supply can carry once a car is added. Sometimes the answer is a smaller charger, sometimes it is a bigger conversation.
Mounting, commissioning and the app
The unit goes up, gets commissioned, and we set it up alongside you: load limits, off-peak timers, the lot.
Whatever the charger drags in behind it
No room on the board means switchboard work, and undersized mains mean a Level 2 job. You hear about either one up front, not halfway through the afternoon.
What Affects the Cost of EV Charger Installation
We don't charge by the hour, and there is no standard charger price, because hardly any of the cost is the charger. It is the distance, and what is sitting in the way of it.
- How far the charger lands from the board, measured the way a cable actually has to travel rather than in a straight line
- What your walls are made of. Solid double-brick construction leaves a cable nowhere to fall, so the run climbs into the roof space, drops under the floor, or lives in surface conduit
- Whether the finished run has to be invisible. Render shows surface conduit, and hiding it properly is real work
- What the board has left. A dedicated circuit needs a spare way and the capacity sitting behind it
- Whether your supply carries the extra load, or wants a Level 2 electrician on the mains first
All of that gets settled before you see a price, and the price you see is written down and locked.

What We See in Malabar Homes
The wall tends to decide the job.
Render, brick, and more brick behind that: it sounds like a detail right up until a cable has to travel from a switchboard on one side of a Malabar house to a car parked on the other.
A timber-framed house hands you a wall cavity, and a cavity is a free path from top to bottom. Solid brickwork hands you nothing, so the cable takes the long way: up into the roof and back down, beneath the floor, or along the surface in conduit.
That is why a charger on the garage wall nearest the board can be a morning's work, and the identical charger on the far wall prices differently.
We would rather point at that on your wall than spring it on you in an invoice.

Compliance, Certificates and NSW Requirements
Installing an EV charger is notifiable electrical work in NSW. That is not a formality, it is rather the whole point.
The install is wired to AS/NZS 3000, and a charger circuit carries requirements of its own on top: dedicated protection, cable sized for a continuous load, and the RCD type the manufacturer actually specifies.
When we finish, a certificate of compliance is lodged with NSW Fair Trading and yours is emailed to you. Our licence is #452529C, easily checked at NSW Fair Trading.
There is no legal DIY version of this one. A charger is the largest single load most houses will ever have added to them.

Our EV Charger Installation Process, Start to Finish
Most charger installs are a one-day job. A long cable run, or a board that needs sorting first, can push it into a second.
We walk the route with you. Before any price exists, we work out where the unit goes and how a cable reaches it. You see the route being proposed, not just a total at the bottom.
We check the supply, then quote. We assess what your board and mains can carry with a car added, then put a fixed written price around all of it.
Install day. The circuit goes in, the unit goes up, and the run is made good. Cleaning up behind ourselves is standard, not a favour.
Commissioned, tested, certified. We test the circuit and commission the charger with you standing there. Your certificate of compliance follows, plus photos of how it all ended up.

What You Get When We Do Your EV Charger Installation
You get a route you agreed to, at a price you saw before we started.
Charger installs go wrong in two familiar ways: the cheapest possible cable run somewhere ugly, or a low quote that meets the supply problem on the day. Doing the assessment first is how we avoid handing you either.
Licence #452529C, wired to AS/NZS 3000, and 600+ five-star reviews standing behind it.

Related Work and Surrounding Areas
Chargers pull other jobs along behind them. A full board means switchboard upgrades first, and undersized mains mean Level 2 work before either of those, which is worth knowing before the car lands.
For chargers we work through Malabar and the wider Randwick service area, Coogee, Kingsford and Maroubra included.

Common questions
EV Charger Installation FAQs
Six things worth knowing before delivery day. If yours is not on the list, ask while we are at the wall working out your route.
Does EV charger installation work for apartments and strata in Malabar?
Yes, though it is a different job. The charger has to be fed from your own meter, the cable usually crosses common property, and the owners corporation needs to approve the route before anyone drills anything.
Can I choose the brand of gear for EV charger installation?
Yes, and plenty of people arrive with one already in mind or bundled with the car. We will fit it where it is compliant and suits your supply, and you will hear about it plainly if it does not.
Do you bring the charger, or do I?
Either way works. A charger bundled with the car gets fitted as it is, and otherwise we supply a compliant unit with its price already sitting in the quote.
How is an EV charger install priced?
On the route, not the charger. We quote fixed and in writing after walking the cable run and checking the board, and the price we quote is the price you pay.
Does EV charger installation have to be done by a licensed sparkie?
Yes, always. It is notifiable electrical work in NSW, so a licensed electrician has to do it and certify it afterwards, whatever the unboxing video suggests.
Is a permit or notification needed for EV charger installation in NSW?
Notification, yes, though not a council permit. The compliance paperwork is lodged with NSW Fair Trading once the work is done, and if your supply needs upgrading first, that part goes through the network as Level 2 work.
